She is blooming!
She is a singer whose debut album has met with huge success; she is a daughter who has lived up to her mother’s expectations, fulfilled her mother’s wishes and did not fail her mother’s faith; she is building the tomorrow of our own culture she is Krishno Koli. Krishno Koli, the rising star of the country in the field of music, is not just a koli anymore. She is already blooming and shining in life. Still in her twenties, she is a singer with a debut a album that proved to be an instant hit, a writer and a full time mother. Quite undoubtedly, it is her confidence and her closely-knit family background that has shone on her this success at such an early stage of life.
‘ I know I was born to sing,’ she says with confidence. At the same time she admits the disappointment with which she believed herself to be the victim of singing lessons held at dawn. In fact, she confesses ‘I would gladly bunk classes whenever possible. The only thing that kept me going was my mother’s undying faith in me and her wanting me to be a classical singer and it was hard to let her down.’ Her mother, having been a faculty at Khulna University, implanted in her and her brother an interest in literature that made them voracious readers.
A blend of her interest in film-making and her knack for reading led her to work with Afsana Mimi in the

audio visual department of a production house. She eventually moved into scriptwriting and making documentaries. She also wrote manuals for under privileged children for the organization Prokriti. One of her shows Bangla e Boli has proved to be rather popular amongst the Channel I viewers. The show features linguistic and cultural distortion going around in the universities of Dhaka. This portrays her rejection of the westernized culture that is scurrying into ours. She mentions that such feelings against westernized culture do not rest upon the fact that our culture is being invaded but on the blindness of the people to the other aspects of the west their professionalism, punctuality and dedication that we fail to imitate. Amongst all her achievements, she prides most over her daughter Amritanjali and the donation of her mother’s eyes and bones for medical purposes. She says she found the attitude of the people against donation bones rather funny; she believes she has done the right thing as it was also one of her mother’s last wishes to have her own body parts donated for medical purposes. Although Krishno Koli sees Amritanjali in the limelight already because of the fame she has achieved, she wants her daughter to grow up and draw attention for her own attitude, morals and actions. As already mentioned, Krishno Koli is not a koli anymore. She is the flower that has bloomed beautifully and spread an aroma that has won the hearts of many today. With her down to earth attitude and her open mindedness, she id bound to cross any boundaries she chooses to!
