Banglalink Desh Music Fest 2007 – Rocking to help
Like many times before, bands came together to rock, roll and jive to help the flood affected victims. Faizul Khan Tanim writes about the selfless donations by the bands from their remuneration and, discovers, that the colour of help is orange

The Banglalink Desh Music Fest 2007, which rocked and rolled and popped and pulled one of the biggest two-day concerts of the year, was indeed one of the biggest charity affairs as well.
The event, held on August 17 and 18, at the outskirts of Dhaka, had the activism theme: ‘making a difference with music’ and, was the biggest event aimed at raising aid for the flood victims. It had enormous power and artistes and the audience braved the elements to rock to a noble cause. In this regard, we remember, Ornob, who kept on singing despite a heavy downfall.
The two-day event lineup had almost 50 major artistes from our music industry – Lalon, Shironamhin, Nagarbaul, Miles, Aurthohin, Kamol with his Guitar Solo, Warfaze, Pentagon, Maqsood O Dhaka, Feedback, Dalchhut, Yaatri, Prometheus, Shahed, Asif, Hyder Husyn, Ornob and friends, Mehreen, Rauma, Milan Mahmood, Shahjahan Munshi, LRB, Azam Khan, Souls, Black, Artcell, Metal Maze, Nemesis, Orup Rahi, Yaatri, Ajob, Scarecrow, Club IF and more. And, all the artistes gave a 110 per cent effort.

Concord Group, Channel-i, SAS, amaderGaan.com, Carnival and Radio Foorti also joined Banglalink as partners to make a difference in the lives of the flood victims through music and, made the concert a success.
In this respect, Shafin Ahmed of Miles said, ‘we appreciate that corporate bodies like Banglalink, has the sense of responsibility towards society when people are suffering greatly.’
Both Shafin Ahmed and Sumon of Aurthohin said, ‘it’s notable that whenever an individual or the country is in crisis bands have come forward with remarkable promptness.’
Prior to the concert, Shafin Ahmed added, ‘I am sure the bands are happy to participate in a concert to help these flood victims just as they have done in the past since the 1988 flood. And, I wish media people from other art forms would contribute in the same manner.’
As it was one of the largest open air concerts staged in Bangladesh, the event had participation from major audio labels like G-series, Sangeeta, Laser Vision, Sound Machine, Gaanchill Media Ltd., Impress Audio Vision Ltd., Bengal Music and others.
As the event proceeded, the audience expressed their unity with the theme and objective of the event and enjoyed every bit of the exciting performances.
According to a Press Release, Miles made an announcement of donating the whole amount of their remuneration to the flood victims. And, right after that, other members of the Bangladesh Association of Musical Bands (BAMBA) also declared to donate a lion’s portion of their compensation to the relief fund.
